VALUES

INDIA MOVING TOWARDS THE FAKE VALUES

Dear friends welcome to this world of dreams, a world of media, and a reel life which is finding its roots in India’s value system. I am a simple educator. I am not against any development but excessively adaptation of new values without reasoning. I must tell you that, I am from a traditional family of a small town in M.P. .  As I grew, I came to know many things of reality of this world. In my studies of Philosophy of communication and the Indian Philosophy, I learnt that India had one of the oldest civilizations of the world. Earlier people in India were living in their small villages.  The media did not influence them at all but today the story is totally different.
In the past values were passed on to the young by the eldest of the community or the family. Even now, we can see that some people and groups like mahilamandals and joint families are keeping the values and living by it. Our festivals too play a great role by prompting us time to time the importance of the traditional values behind every celebration. There are some exceptionally good people, though they live in the modern world fir bhi dil hai Hindustani. Earlier the people used to say Chhota parivar sukhi parivar than came hum do hamare do and now hum do hamara ek!! This ‘only’ child who gets all the attention, love and affection but, fails to receive values the parents are giving. Having been influenced by the media, things began to change radically.   She / He wants to imitate actors, actress and they compromise with the values they have learnt.  The youngsters today get into the competition at the cost of the value. Girls want to look more attractive and live by the slogan LESSER THE BETTER. Even the boys are imitating the popular actors in their actions, stunts and in dressing.  In doing so the youngsters think that, they can attract the complimentary. Sometimes they do succeed. The influential factors are: watching of T.V. / Movies, magazines and use of social media etc. (without reasoning). The eminent personalities like; some actors and actress are propagating ill values in their movies and in their advertisments. Where are the true values and morality? One looks at the film stars and thinks:IF HE CAN WHY CAN’T I?”.

Some of the reasons which I feel have influenced in the change of value today.
Earlier the young used to play together outdoors in big groups but slowly the number dropped. Then came the time of indoor games and hardly children were seen on the grounds. Nowadays we see youngsters playing video games or on the internet or on the mobile-phones.  Due to the influence of media, the youngster wants more and more things that are in fashion which they feel the trend of the time. Lack of encouragement from the parents makes things worse. Parents compare their young ones with others. This too results in a wrong impression on their minds. When children do not listen to their parents they are punished and in frustration the innocents find consolation and help in the forms of drugs and wrong companies. This is how the values of India are changing.
I think the excess of anything is never good because it turns in the addiction and addiction in itself is never good. We all must have to create a friendly atmosphere, give them time and required affection that can build a genuine trust between the child and the parent, which they seek.

As a good citizen of India what ‘you’ and ‘I’ suppose to do? What can be our stand for this generation?
